Hi, I'm Glen
and I'm your host.

When I sent out a letter to every e-mail address
I could find asking people to adopt a new world
standard for writing dates, some people said I was
CRAZY
Use the link to read the original letter which explains the format and
the reasons for using it, as well as the problems with old formats.

Then standards organizations in a few different countries replied telling me that the exact format I proposed had already been adopted.
The standard is known as  ISO-8601 adopted by the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

To learn more about the ISO use the link to their web site
found on the Related Links page.

Now the question is no longer:
Should we adopt a new world date standard?
But The New Question is:
Why Aren't we Using it?
Well a few of us are, but not enough.

So what is the standard date format?
YYYY-MM-DD
Where Y=year M=month and D=day.

There are other issues related to both
date and time that pop up and need to be
addressed, so check a couple of them out on
the Time Issues and Decade Names pages.
